TheatreNet is a complete solution for stage automation which includes our TheatreMotion Windows application that allows the user to fully control multiple motor controllers such as speed, direction, acceleration and deceleration.
TheatreMotion communicates with any number of controllers over a normal TCP / IP network.
TheatreMotion is a windows application designed to communicate with our motor controllers allowing the user to control multiple axis (motors) from their desktop and receive real time feedback. Users can build up a Stage Show by creating Actions that each axis needs to perform and grouping these together in Cues to be executed when needed.
Actions
An action can either run to a specified position or for a set time. The position is either specified in millimeters or in degrees of an angle depending on the type of Axis (linear or rotating). These positions are calibrated when setting up the Axis.
Each action specifies the speed (a percentage of the maximum speed) and acceleration that the Axis should move with.
Actions can be daisy chained together such that one action will execute as soon as another has finished or can be set to start after a specified interval from when the cue was started.
Cues
A Cue is a group of actions which will be performed together, these relate to the Cues of a stage production. A cue may have actions that move multiple axis at the same time or a single axis but performs multiple actions on it one after the other.
Axis
Axis (or Motors) can be setup as wither linear or rotating axis depending on what they are connected to. An example of a rotating Axis would be one that moves a revolving stage. Each Axis is defined by a unique IP address and port where it can be contacted.
Communication
The TheatreNet motor controllers use an XPort Ethernet interface to communicate over TCP / IP. The XPort receives an IP automatically DHCP if available or a static IP can be assigned. TheatreMotion communicates with the controllers over TCP / IP network, meaning the workstation can be located anywhere as long as it has access to the network the controllers are on.
TheatreMotion polls each axis every second to ensure the communication is still live, and alerts the operator if any axis is offline so this can be resolved before the next Cue needs to be run.
